Great Appellations

Each one of the Riesling appellations Kirchenstück, Ungeheuer, Jesuitengarten and Musenhang is world-renowned. They all belong to Forst, which, with 700 residents, is the smallest community in the Deidesheim Vacation Region. There are about 200 hectares of vineyard area. Basalt soils and weathered sandstone, mixed with lime, loam and clay, provide ideal conditions for the maturing of the “King of German White Wines”. Connoisseurs know that the wines from the Riesling vineyards of Forst are among the highest-rated from Germany. Their elegance and spirit are simply unique. The appearance of the village is most beautiful too and you will find the view over long-established wineries along the natural stone-paved Main Street thrilling. Even the French Emperor is said to have once spent the night in the rooms of today’s winegrowers’ association. This event is commemorated in the Napoleon Room.

Quaint Old Town

Strolling through Forst, you will see magnificent typical winegrowers’ houses and estates, many of which have been carefully renovated in their original style. You will find fig trees and house vines along your way past centuries-old estates with beautiful archways and inviting courtyards. This is what makes Forst an idyllic gem of the German Wine Route and one of its most appealing communities.

Time to Celebrate and Enjoy

If you want to stop off in Forst, you will mainly find comfy restaurants and amazing wine taverns offering home-style cooking with lots of specialties from the Palatinate. Walks through the world-renowned vineyards of the Eastern Palatinate Forest will definitely whet your appetite for more. Looking for a celebration? There are plenty of them in Forst throughout the year. On Mid-Lent Sunday, the young and old join forces in a game to cheerfully ‘drive out’ the winter. On each first weekend of August, thousands of visitors come to the “Wine Carousel at the Monster”, to celebrate one of the most idyllic wine fests of the Palatinate. And if you want to taste the selected Rieslings yourself under the guidance of experts, the “Presentation of the Best” in spring is the event for you.
