Welcome
Deidesheim - The Other Paradise
What did Ronald Reagan actually eat on his visit to Deidesheim? Did Queen Elisabeth relish the stuffed pig’s stomach? Questions that admittedly put Deidesheim’s most famous cook on the spot a bit. In fact, he has indeed cooked for the Queen, despite the fact that she did not have enough time for a visit to Deidesheim. She was, however, still able to enjoy the delightful meal as it was prepared for her on the train.
Many famous people have experienced the same as Queen Elisabeth. All official guests of the German Chancellor have also visited Deidesheim, the place to be! In fact, Queen Elisabeth and Ronald Reagan are exceptions since all the other famous people really visited Deidesheim to enjoy the unique atmosphere of the small town, its wine and its fine cuisine. Presidents, regents, heads of state and artists from countries large and small have been here, with more than a few of them returning for a second visit.
It is not only the natural appeal of Deidesheim that attracts them, but also a very special vineyard. The “Paradiesgarten” appellation directly above the town comprises the vineyards of many prominent people. The Riesling vine constitutes their own small piece of the Palatinate. The vineyards can be leased from the mayor and the community who also use their expertise to cultivate them and for the harvest in the fall if the celebrity leaseholder is not present at that time. Of course, the leaseholders are given their wine nevertheless. A document regulates the tenancy as strictly as is necessary and as leniently as possible.
So it is far from unusual to meet celebrities in Deidesheim and when you see them, there is not much of a stir. “Just like you and I”, is what one might think about celebrities in Deidesheim. Then you suddenly realize you have more in common with the famous people of this world than you might have thought, such as the love of Deidesheim.
