Wine & Forest

“I have already drunk as much wine as you see in this cellar”, says the smiling old cellar master as he points towards two dozen wine barrels. It takes along time to drink this much wine and the cellarer’s life has certainly been long. For drinking wine regularly and in moderation is indeed healthy. The experts are agreed on this and the old cellar master of Deidesheim is a perfect example. An old document proves that doctors were already prescribing wine as a medicine more than 100 years ago.
There were Riesling appellations at that time in Deidesheim too, and they are still to be found here today. Their names such as Herrgottsacker, Hofstück, Mariengarten, or Mäushöhle are well known and stir up memories and cravings among wine connoisseurs. The name of the “Paradiesgarten” appellation sounds enticing even to wine novices. The situation, climate and soils have made Deidesheim and its neighboring communities of Forst, Niederkirchen, Ruppertsberg and Meckenheim, the preferred residence of the King Riesling, the finest of German white wines. The fiery, crisp and elegant products from the heart of the winegrowing area Mittelhaardt-German Wine Route are rated as being among the world’s best wines. However, King Riesling does not rule exclusively here. White Burgundy, gray Burgundy, Gewürztraminer, Scheurebe, Silvaner, Kerner and Müller-Thurgau are also among the variety of white wines from Deidesheim. Red wine lovers are also cared for and they will find Pinot Noir, Portuguese, Dornfelder and other renowned red wines in this region. The old and young cellar masters turn nature’s treasures and ripened grapes into enticing wine.
