Easter Egg Shoot

The Ruppertsberg Easter Egg Shoot, established in 1966, has become one of the region’s largest and longest-established events of its kind. While only 200 eggs were used for the event in 1966, 30,000 eggs were needed ten years later. Today, this number has doubled again. The Easter Egg Shoot is very popular with both the residents of the Ruppertsberg area and visitors from regions all over Germany. “There are even people who organize their annual vacation according to the Ruppertsberg Easter Egg Shoot. Some of them have been doing this for several years now.” The organizers of the Shoot are estimating that around 13,000 to 15,000 visitors will attend this year. “Good weather is important for a high number of visitors, of course.” However, the organization team is very confident that the previous year’s result can be topped once again. “In previous years, a total of 65.860 eggs were needed.” Each year, there are also about 200 voluntary helpers who support the event, clocking up around 1500 working hours over Easter. In addition, there is a large number of supporters who contribute homemade cakes throughout the Easter Egg Shoot, ensuring that refreshments are always available for the visitors. Oskar Frey, a composer and poet from Ruppertsberg, has even composed an Easter Egg March for the riflemen of Ruppertsberg. Each guest entering the rifle club is welcomed with the saying, “Es lebe der Schütze froh und frei – ein guter Schluck – ein buntes Ei!”The rifle club is a very cheerful and sociable place where you can savor a glass of good wine from Ruppertsberg. In good weather, the bouncy castle outside should be prepared for a great siege. The event has been sponsored for years by the Ruppertsberger Winzerverein and the Gebietsweinwerbung Pfalzwein e.V. You will see the sponsors on special Easter egg shoot targets during the event.

The Regulations:

The local rifle club provides the 13,000 to 15,000 visitors of the Easter egg shoot with airguns. As with international competitions, all participants shoot from a distance of 10 meters. Only one shot may be fired at each target. If you hit the black area of the target (ring 4 or better) you are awarded one colored easter egg. If you score a bull’s eye, you are awarded two easter eggs. Twelve targets (12 shots) cost €2,50 and each participant may acquire as many targets as desired.
