The most charming Christmas fair in the Palatinate!
For 33 years, numerous exhibitors and artistic-craftsmen have been coming to Deidesheim to meet at over 100 stalls in the renowned wine town on the German Wine Route. It has long been known that the Deidesheim Advent is one of the most romantic Christmas fairs in Germany. There are probably two reasons for the renowned image of the fair - the historical setting and appearance of Deidesheim and the beautifully designed fair, which looks like a sea of lights from the Arabian Nights. This is why the Deidesheim Advent has been counted among the five most beautiful Christmas fairs in Germany, Switzerland and Austria by the “Welt am Sonntag” newspaper!Most of the stalls display elaborate arts-and-crafts items. As a visitor, you can watch the work of glassblowers, goldsmiths, leather cutters, wood carvers, coopers, bakers, potters and many more. The large number of surprises and peculiarities, such as a medieval figure maker who has revived this long extinct profession, will once again attract visitors from all over Germany and Europe. Apart from learning more about the medieval art of calligraphy and the production of writing ink, you can also gain insight into the production of colored felt in the “studio for plant colors.” While the “Christmas Barn” in the Dienheimer Schloss will be offering warming meals and drinks, the Schlossmanufaktur’s artist studios will also be opening their doors to visitors. You will be offered a broad range of top-quality specialties and drinks. The mulled wine which is served at the fair, is made only from red wines from the Deidesheim region. Both this and random inspections ensure the high quality of the served mulled wine.On Fridays from 17.00 – 21.00, Saturdays from 14.00 – 21.00 and Sundays from 11.00 – 21.00, the historic town of Deidesheim is swathed in a Christmassy atmosphere on all four weekends of Advent. The fair master, dressed in traditional clothes, is in charge of the events of the fair and maintains order. The Deidesheim Advent begins directly opposite the station, so it is very convenient for visitors to travel to Deidesheim using public transport. Fairy tales, theater events, the children’s bakery and many more activities for children offer lots of fun and excitement for smaller visitors. “Prospective artists” are able to make Christmas gifts for their parents in the “Wichtelwerkstatt”. The supporting program of the 33rd Advent fair offers something for every taste, with about 70 events such as numerous concerts in the churches, the market area and the “Paradiesgarten” community hall. Visitors who would like to learn more about the local Christmas customs should participate in one of the special Christmas tours, which have been very popular in previous years. If you want to explore Deidesheim outside of the events of the fair, you can follow the marked Artists’ Route through the historic center of the town.
